Outlook read receipt

The Outlook Read Receipt can be used to receive a short confirmation from the recipient that the mail has been read.

What is the read receipt?

Mail traffic has become much more common in the last few years. Billions of mails are sent every day. Therefore, the overview as well as the priorities of these can often become blurred. For particularly important mails, a read receipt can therefore be requested. It ensures that the recipient receives a message with which he can send a confirmation. The special thing here is that he has the choice. One is not sent automatically. Thus, it is not a reliable means of ensuring that the person opposite has actually read the e-mail. It can only be used for information or orientation.

Can the read receipts in Outlook be activated by default?

The Outlook read receipts can also be activated by default.

To do this, open the options in Outlook. Now navigate to the tab “Mail” and scroll to “History”. There is a check mark that you can set to activate the setting. This is called: “Read confirmation, which confirms that the message has been viewed by the recipient”.

Once this is enabled, the above setting will be set automatically. Thus, every time an email is sent, a read receipt is automatically requested. However, the recipient can still refuse to send the confirmation, which is why it is not possible to say with certainty whether the recipient has read the mail or not. This should be considered in any case.
