Disk Cleanup

Disk Cleanup is a tool already integrated by Microsoft in Windows 10 & 11. The tool is designed to remove useless files in Windows and thus free up disk space.

What exactly is the reason for this?

Windows uses very large amounts of files for the updates or also installations. For this, temporary files are needed for the installation routine, which are not always removed. Furthermore, the system is constantly being improved, which is why previously required files become useless when the operating system is updated. This leaves file remnants that can be removed via Disk Cleanup.

Can perform Disk Cleanup without hesitation?

Since the tool is provided by Microsoft and is therefore adapted to the Windows operating system, the tool can be used without any problems.

Here, however, only one very important note. The tool also empties or deletes the contents of your recycle bin when you select it. So you have to check again, if it does not contain important things. In the best case, you do not empty it via the tool, but manually.

The use of the disk cleanup

First, the tool “Disk Cleanup” is opened. To do this, simply enter “Disk Cleanup” in the Windows search. Already during the input it should appear.

Then select the tool also with “start as administrator”.

Now there is here a selection already selected by Microsoft. This can be carried out without hesitation. In order to empty the “recycle bin”, it must be selected.

There are also the so-called “temporary files”. These are used during the installation and then leave a “rest”. Windows deletes this.

Now the selection must be confirmed with “OK” and it must be confirmed the renewed question whether really the selected files are to be deleted, again with “Delete files”.
